Obituary: Abdul Mannan - originator of the AsanQuran Project

(Obituary written by AsanQuran team)
We sadly announce the death of the creator and owner of the AsanQuran website, Abdul Mannan. He died in a tragic car accident at 2:00 am on the 16th of October, 2003 in Islamabad, Pakistan. Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Elaihi Rajioon. May Allah bless his soul.

An extremely humble person, he never mentioned his name anywhere on the AsanQuran website or on any of the Emails he sent. One purpose of sending this news to all of you is to offer as many prayers as possible. Twenty nine years of age, he got married less than two years ago. Allah blessed him with a daughter this September. May Allah bestow 'sabar' on his family and friends. His parent's residence is at House No. 209-G, Model Town, Lahore, Pakistan. Abdul Mannan had a Masters degree in Computer Science. He was an outstanding software engineer/manager who created/managed software products of world fame. While maintaining the AsanQuran service, he was leading a small team. Now that he is no longer with us, we intend to maintain the service just as he would have wished. In the near future we will start an English version of the daily pages Inshallah, a task that he had initiated. We are also launching a condolences page.

Please note that the AsanQuran site is totally non-commercial.

Thanks,
-----------------------

Post script of Dr Salman's Astronomy Lecture
The Astronomy lecture on 14 October, by Dr Salman Hameed was hailed as an encouraging success, with a healthy audience, a grasping speaker and seamless organization. The session was Presided by the Vice President of the Khwarzimic Science Society, Dr Hasan Shah, who is currently the Chairman of the Physics Department, Government College University and a long associate of the KSS. The event was mediated by the President KSS, Dr Saadat Anwar Siddiqi. He introduced and thanked the speaker, mentioning that the KSS had the opportunity to play host ot him in a trilogy of lectures at the UET, Lahore and the Punjab University, in the year 1998.

The speaker gripped the audience with his scintillating style and described the birth of stars in the stellar nurseries, the intergalactic dust called the nebulae. The speaker enthused a new sense of wonder in the audience, who followed the session with a barrage of questions, turning the lecture into an interactive discussion.

In the end, the Chair of the session thanked the speaker and the President Dr Saadat for his immense contribution to the academic atmosphere inside the Punjab University through the KSS. The event was recorded on the still and video camera and results will be made available soon. Plans are also underway to make the video recording of the event publicly available on some decided cost.
