Introduction to the Speaker

Mr. Sultan Ali Barq is an engineer and a devlopment planner. His education and training include civil engineering, environment, energy, economic development, resource optmization, agricultural development, agribusiness, rural development, system analysis and water resources.

Mr. Barq has undertaken advanced level on-work training in economic development models, inter-sectoral integration, poverty alleviation, structural adjustments, governance, banking, credit and finance management and resource planning. He has extensive exerience in the project design and management of multisectoral nature alongwith policy formulations and designs in Pakistan and a number of other countries. He has written about 300 papers about governance, engineering, environment, forestry, technical development, poverty alleviation and structural adjustment issues in the third world. He is also an author of the book "Poverty by Choice". He has participated in a number of projects in Pakistan, USA, gambia, Nepal and Saudi Arabia.

He is a member of international and national organisations like the PUGWASH Group that received the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1995, ISODARCO (International School for Disarmament and Resolution of Conflicts) in Italy, national Think Tank for the Growth of Economy, Pakistan Central Cotton Committe (PCCC) and the Khwarzimic Science Society.
