Profile

The Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics wasestablished in 1973. Since joining the Centre I have been involved in a number of areas of importance to the establishment and development of a newly created Centre of Excellence. This includes planning for new research laboratories and teaching courses in the field of solid state physics and establishment of an X-ray Diffraction laboratory. I am also, currently, looking after the Materials Science, Scanning Electron Microscopy, EPMA and AES laboratories in addition to teaching and supervising M.Phil. and Ph.D. students.

I undertook a one-year research assignment from October 1998, at the University of Trieste, Italy, sponsored by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics under Italian Labs Programme. During this period I have the honour to join a team of an international scientists to set up a new experimental laboratory on worked on High Temperature Superconductivity at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. While working in that laboratory, I have produced a number of research papers published in international journals and been presented in many conferences.

I have also served as Director Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics, the Punjab University, Lahore from 12 March 1996 to 14 March 1999

Solid State Physics, Crystallography, High Strength Engineering Ceramics and Composites, X-Ray Diffraction, High Tc Superconductors, scanning electron microscopy, SIALONs, Si3N4 and its derivative ceramics.

  1. Preparation of Si3N4 based technical ceramics (1997-2000), financed by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
  2. Development of Industrial and Engineering Ceramics, (1998-2001), financed by University Grants Commission, Islamabad.
  3. Plasma Processing of Materials and Phase Changes using dense Plasma Focus, (2000), Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in collaboration with Prof..G.Murtaza.
  4. New Ferrites and Magnetic Materials (2000), to be submitted to Pakistan Science Foundation.
  5. Impedance Spectroscopy.
