IF ONLY WE OULD SEE OURSELVES AS OTHERS SEE US.

I have the ability to make my way through life without seeing my effects upon others. It is when I see a person impose or infringe upon another persons pride and pay attention to the exact nature of what has taken place, that I have the opportunity of correcting myself from doing the same. Sometimes we find something in our reading that leads us into a trail that provides descriptions and facts that run contrary to our opinions and beliefs. We become confused and bewildered; we can take our most normal thought as an escape, then subject ourselves to our own self wisdom. Man can paint or make or think nothing but man. He believes that great material elements had their origin from his thought. If we inquire into the kinds of service we derive from others, we must begin low enough. We must not contend against love, nor deny the substantial existence of other people. We have social strengths. Our affection towards others creates an advantage that becomes the lever that positions our true self. I can say to you what I cannot say to myself first. Other men are the lenses through which we read our own minds. He is great who is what he is from nature, and who never reminds us of others. It is easy for sugar to be sweet. It costs a beautiful person nothing, no exertion, to paint her image on our eyes. It costs no more for a wise soul to convey his quality to other men. I count him a great man who inhabits a higher sphere of thought; into which other men rise with labor and difficulty. He has but to open his eyes to see things in a true light and in large relations, while others make painful corrections and keep their eyes on many sources of error to avoid them. The great man has attained his thought through persistent understanding of the same errors. But he must be related to us, and our life receive from him some explanation. I cannot tell fully what I know, but I have observed persons who, in their character and actions, answer questions which I dont have the skill to ask. A man who answers questions that have not been asked is isolated. The man so isolated can affect us with rich possibilities. What is good is effective and will make for itself room, food and allies. The river makes its own shores and a legitimate idea makes its own channels and welcome. |
